IMS Global Consortium LI Awards and Learning Trends

Today, April 19, 2007, the IMS Global Learning Consortium (GLC) announced the recipients of their Learning Impact Awards. This awards program recognizes learning innovation in terms of the technology used and the educational organization utilizing it for high impact, capturing the essential elements of innovation, adoption, and learning.

The group reported on several trends reflected in the awards finalists:

  • The importance of integrated learning, collaboration, and research environments.
  • Significant growth in the use of rich media and the need to effectively deliver and manage a proliferation of such content.
  • The continued desire to support easier course site authoring by faculty and students, especially in collaborative fashion.
  • Use of distance learning environments to supplement and improve the classroom experience by providing study aids and additional resources.
  • Significant new innovations in providing personalized learning through adaptive feedback on math and writing skills development enabling better college preparation.

Tip Sheet for Elluminate Webcasts

The Library Services Consultants at the College Center for Library Automation send out this tip sheet along with invitations to all their Elluminate webcasts:

The tip sheet uses text and screen captures to acquaint users with the basic features of Elluminate, and shows them what to do to get set up to participate in a webcast. It also contains links to more detailed Elluminate tutorials.

Florida's Community Colleges Earn Tech-Savvy Awards

The top 10 tech-savvy community colleges for 2007 have been named by the Center for Digital Education and the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). Many Florida institutions were awarded, including Florida Coomunity College at Jacksonville, St. Petersburg College, Miami-Dade College, and Indian River College.

Florida's EdPass Initiative

The Florida EdPASS Initiative sponsored by the Florida Distance Learning Consortium in partnership with the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB). EdPASS is designed to streamline the admissions, registration and enrollment process for students seeking additional professional development opportunities. Participating colleges and universities have agreed to use SREB’s VESA ( V isiting E lectronic S tudent A uthorization) system.

New Apple Devices in the near future?

News is finally looking good for those of us Apple lovers on the search for an iPhone. In a new article from PCMag.com there is more rumor of a new iPhone in the coming year as well as a possible iTV.

Having conquered and secured its hold on the portable digital media player market, Apple will turn its attention to other consumer electronics spaces in 2007.
Specifically, the company plans to launch its first cell phone offering early next year, as well as the iTV living-room digital hub that was previewed two weeks ago at a special media event.
